How Thread It Precision Scores Work
Clean fits, spare room and near misses. Find out why a tighter escape earns more.
Thread It rewards a clean escape first, then precision. A shape that clears the opening always scores above one that catches at the edge.
Two score bands
For a clean fit, the game measures the spare room relative to the opening. Start at 100 and subtract two points for every percentage point of spare room, with a floor of 50.
Clean fit: round(100 − 2 × spare %), between 50 and 100.
| Spare room | Clean-fit score |
|---|---|
| 0% | 100/100 |
| 1% | 98/100 |
| 5% | 90/100 |
| 10% | 80/100 |
| 25% | 50/100 |
Misses still have a gradient
If the shape is too tall at your chosen angle, the game measures how far it exceeds the opening. Start at 49, subtract two points per percentage point over the opening, and stop at zero.
Caught turn: round(49 − 2 × over %), between 0 and 49.
| Over the opening | Caught-turn score |
|---|---|
| 1% | 47/100 |
| 5% | 39/100 |
| 10% | 29/100 |
| 25% | 0/100 |
Try a fit or a miss
Notice the jump from a caught turn to a clean fit. This example does not affect your game.
What to look for
Think about the whole shape’s height at an angle, rather than only its pointed ends. It slides in a straight line and cannot bend or rotate during its escape. Different shapes can need very different turns.
The clean-fit comparison shown after a round is a learning aid. It does not change the first turn you saved. Finish all five rounds to get the rounded average, then share the same puzzle set with a friend.
